Christine Dow (a.k.a. “Grits”) is southern by the grace of God (or at least by the decision of her parents), having been born and raised in Birmingham, AL.
With that sweet southern drawl, “Mama” (as she commonly refers to herself) is quick to tell you how proud she is of her southern roots and how much she loves wearing her well-worn cowboy boots and pink “Cowboys Love Brunettes” T-shirt (which always makes Tom a little nervous, since he’s not a cowboy).
Christine’s heart beats for her family, including her Mom & Dad, her older brother, and younger (by a few minutes) twin sister (who Tom learned about for the first time when attempting to use the “They broke the mold when they made you” line).
She also loves her new little nephews more than they could ever imagine.
It is not uncommon, when walking with Christine and bumping into one of her old college friends, to be jolted by the sudden exclamation of “War $@*&% Eagle!”
In addition to earning her degree in criminal justice, she learned this startling, yet cherished war cry while attending her alma mater of Auburn University.
One of the most special seasons in Christine’s life was the four years that she served as the female youth director at Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Though she often talks about how much her heart was changed while working there and how precious her youth group friends are to her, Tom is certain (after riding the wave of the “I love Christine!” paparazzi during his first visit to the church) that she ministered to the hearts of many of the people there too.
Currently, Christine is pursuing her M.A. in Educational Ministries and Master of Theology degrees at Covenant Theological Seminary.
When not “loving on” people and “hugging their necks,” Mama often spends her spare time in the seminary chapel, thanking the Lord for bringing her to seminary and for letting her marry such an incredible man as Tom Rubino.
