I'll get you your buck fifty, don't worry. In all seriousness, I did mean to use "frugal" instead of "cheap". I'm not sure how that slipped out. It has such a crass sound to it. I should have used a different word. We received the rehearsal dinner invite today. Since it is written in a rhyme, I will have to compose a rhyme for my RSVP email. When I finish my rhyme, I will turn my energies towards composing my rehearsal dinner toast to you, a project for which I have been waiting many years to embark upon. See you in less than a month!

Tom- Thanks for letting us come and play this weekend. It was great to see you again; it had been too long. Sorry we missed our shot at fame by not getting stuck in the arch...Actually, I'm not sorry. If we had gotten stuck, though, I'm sure you would have been your usual entertaining self. (Does hysterical screaming qualify as entertainment?) Anyway, the great meals, throwing the frisbee in Forrest Park and getting to hang out with Christine made for a fantastic weekend.

Christine- It was great to meet you and get to know you a little bit this weekend. Thanks for being willing to listen to the tales about burning towels, late night flute concerts and interesting nicknames...Our wives are all tired of these stories but we obviously still find them very amusing.

See you next month,
Jon

Emily,

Are you sure that was me?

I mean, there seems to be some vicious rumor going around that I'm "cheap", but I have no idea how it got started. Besides, I just want to point out that there is a big difference between being "cheap" and being "thrifty". If I'm close to being either one of those, I think it's clear that thrifty would be the better word to describe me.

By the way, could you remind Craig that he owes me $1.50 for parking when I came to pick him up at the airport this weekend? Thanks.

First impression of Tom - summer of 1993 - "Preacher Man"
Tom comes walking into Reynolda Presbyterian Church in Winston Salem, NC, wearing a missionary shirt, a cross around his neck and had his bible tucked under his arm. Who knew?!?

Tom,
I hope that there isn't a pastoral search committee somewhere in a year that decides to cull all of wordpress for the goods on you. If so, you better hope that smart Christine gets a plum job, b/c you'll be out of luck! And it will be your fault, for leaving an opportunity like this out for all the world to see. So here is my G RATED memorable first impression of you, in case the pastoral search committee comes looking..... Remember when we met for the first time in Craig and Greg's kitchen on Blair Blvd? Somebody wanted to make teriyaki chicken. You said you would go to Comptons for teriyaki sauce. I must have been trying to impress Craig with my resourcefulness b/c I told you that we could save money if you bought soy sauce and brown sugar instead (to make homemade sauce), and then Craig and Greg would have both ingredients left over instead of a half used bottle of teriyaki. With that demonstration of frugality, I felt like I had endeared myself to you FOR LIFE (b/c you are cheap, but I didn't know that at the time b/c Craig hadn't told me). You loved it. I felt like I had sailed through with you. Whenever you two have time to make it to Chicago I will make you chicken with real teriyaki sauce. We stopped living like graduate students last year. The food is better than it used to be...

Christine,
Thank you for laughing at all my jokes when we met in January. It was great to meet you. Thank you for marrying Tom so that all of his friends' wives can have a break from taking care of him. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. If you email me I'll tell you about when Tom was caught with his pants down on the dance floor at my wedding reception. Don't want to leave that one out for the masses to read about.

All the best to you--see you next month!
